Review: Pirate's Booty

I think I may have been the last person left in the country that hadn't tried Pirate's Booty snacks until recently. Everytime I would try to tell people about it and how good it is, they would say that they knew how good it is! Hopefully some of you have never tried it and will now!
I received a large cardboard treasure chest (so cute!) with an assortment of Pirate's Booty in it. I got to try pretty much every variety they have and my favorites were the aged white cheddar, the sea salt and vinegar and the veggie kind. For those of you who have never had it, Pirate's Booty is flavored puffed rice and corn - kind of like the cheese curls you see but with more natural ingredients and none of the food coloring!

I loved how the aged white cheddar ones melted in my mouth. The flavor was strong but definitely not too strong and I loved not having those telltale orange fingers! Pirate's Booty snacks are baked and not fried, without trans-fat or gluten. There are just 130 calories per single serving bag and they have 50% less fat than potato chips.

Mystery Shopping: National Shopping Service

National Shopping Service is a fairly new mystery shopping company to me but I find the shops easy to schedule and the reports easy to complete - both a bonus in my book! There is a good variety of food and retail shops near me and I like how you can indicate you are interested in a shop even if it has already been assigned to another shopper in case they can't complete it.

I found the directions for the shops to be very clear and loved that minimal narrative was required. The shop paid adequately and I will definitely be doing more shops with National Shopping Service!

Target & Walmart Deals

I regularly shop at Target at Walmart but don't post match-ups for these stores. Should I? I guess I'm asking your opinion. Email me or leave a comment if you want to see match-ups for these stores.

I am planning a weekend trip to both stores and realized my envelopes are full of either FREEBIES or major cheapies so I wanted to share.

Coupon shopping at Target either goes perfectly for me or is a disaster that ends with me calling their corporate number and lots of frustration. The good news is that Target's coupon policy is now online. It specifically states you can use a Target coupon and a manufacturer's coupon per item. The bad news is that it doesn't specify what the heck the "limit one offer per transaction" language on Target coupons means...

Review: VTech Bugsby Reading System

VTech's newest learning product is the Bugsby Reading System which debuted in stores last month. I was given a Bugsby and 2 Bugsby books to review for my readers. The system includes a book and cartridge (system retails for just $29.99) and was easy to get set up and working. I received 2 additional books with my Bugsby - "Save The Chimp" for ages 3-5 and "Bugsby and the Magical Museum" for ages 5-7. The books retail for $12.99 and feature characters known to your children such as Dora and Scooby-Doo. The Bugsby is geared towards children 3-7 and lets them interact while providing a safe forum to practice reading skills.

To use the system, your child just touches the pen to the words in the book and listens as the story comes to life. This system makes reading fun and really focuses on what kids find interesting!

My system was tried out by a 4 year old and a 7 year old and both loved it! I was worried it would be "too babyish" for the older child but it wasn't at all and she had a ball. The pen was easy to use and the books were fun and age-appropriate. It was easy to see that the Bugsby was making learning fun - so much so the kids had no idea they were learning something! To me, that is the hallmark of a great educational toy.

The Bugsby system and accompanying books are available at retail locations nationwide. Lands End FeelGood Campaign

I love socially responsible companies and I'm excited to tell you about Lands End's new initiative called the FeelGood Campaign. For every Lands End FeelGood sweater purchased, Lands End will donate signature FeelGood yarn to One Heart Foundation's Warming Families, a nationwide knitting charity. Lands' End expects to donate thousands of pounds of yarn to the charity where volunteers plan to knit up to 25,000 hats and other items to warm the homeless and displaced.

For writing this blog post and telling you guys about this great campaign, Lands End is donating a cone of FeelGood yarn to the volunteer knitters at Warming Families. One cone of yarn will make 28 hats to be donated to homeless people all over the country. It's things like this that make me remember why I love to blog and tell you guys about these kind of great things!

I am including a short video on how to knit for those of you who'd like to learn how. It's a great hobby and the payoff of making beautiful things for your friends and family is a rewarding one.

This past week I actually went to Walgreens and did 2 monthly deals - Trident Layers Gum is 2 for $2 and get $1 RR. I used this printable coupon for $1 off 2 and the gum is FREE after RR. I printed the coupon twice and did the deal twice - remember you can't do it together or else both RR's won't print. I also did the Sally Hansen Deal. You buy 3 Sally Hansen products and get a $5 coupon off Sally Hansen back. I bought 3 of the Hard as Nails nail polishes for $2.29 each then used 3 of the $1 off coupons (from the 8/2 or 8/23 RP) so I paid $3.87 for the 3 nail polishes and got back a $5 coupon!

So now I have $2 in RR and the $5 coupon to start playing around with this week. I'm going to highlight Karen's deals below and then tell you what I plan to get!

My Shopping Trip

I will buy 2 more hard as nails polishes and use the 2 remaining $1 off coupons I have, then add in any item that is more than $2.42 and use the $5 coupon to get $5 off - plus a new $5 coupon will print because I will have purchased 5 Sally Hansen products! I'll use 1 of the register rewards on this since the extra item I am purchasing I don't have a coupon for.

Remember, you can only use as many coupons/RR's as you have items.

I'll also buy the True North snacks - I'll need a small filler item (last week I found cute bamboo napkin rings for $.17) and then I can use the coupon for the snacks plus the RR I have left. I'll leave with $3 RR from the True North and another $5 Sally Hansen coupon - not too bad!
