Karen's Birthday Giveaway Week!

It's Karen the Frugal RI Mama's birthday this week and she is hosting a week of giveaways to celebrate!

To kick off the week, her giveaway today is for a $100 Amazon e-certificate from Mr. Rebates. I've blogged about Mr. Rebates before here and absolutely love it! You can enter Karen's giveaway here.

Make sure to check her site every day for a new giveaway - she's even got one valued at $399.99 that is something we all could use! On her actual birthday, which is Wednesday, she'll be doing a live giveaway that you won't want to miss. Check out her post explaining her week long celebration here.

CVS 5/31-6/6

Karen at Frugal RI Mama has this week's best CVS match-ups and deals here. The highlights are:

CVS Facial Tissue, On Sale $.89 (limit 8)

Final Cost: $1.79

Speedstick & Lady Speedstick, On Sale 2.49
Get $1 ECB (limit 2)

I didn't see anything I needed and don't have any expiring ECB's so I'm skipping this week. There aren't too many ECB deals so I also didn't put together a scenario. Shop at Walgreens and follow my scenario in that post if you're looking for some great deals!

Walgreens 5/31-6/6

I don't have any RR's that are expiring today and there wasn't anything that I needed this week, so I am skipping my own personal trip. If you want to start shopping at Walgreens this week, you could do this deal which assumes you start with no Register Rewards and you have access to 2 Sunday coupon inserts each week (ask a neighbor or your family, or co-workers for an extra set of them!):

Country Time, On Sale $1.99
Use $1.50/2 coupon from the coupons.com blue widget on my right sidebar
Final Cost: $2.48 for 2 (buy 2 and use 1 coupon for a total of $2.48)

100 Calorie Bars, On Sale 2/$5.00
Use $1.00 cpn in 05-03-09 SS insert

Use the $1 coupon or $2/2 coupon from the coupons.com blue widget on my right sidebar
Final cost .99! (buy 2 and use the $2/2 for a total of $1.98)

Your total is now $9.91 - you'll need to get one filler item with a value of at least $.09 and you can't use a coupon on it to be able to use your $10RR on this transaction. You need to get to $10 pre-tax. I found some kids pens and pencils on clearance last week for just about $.10 that would work well here.

You'll then just pay tax and have gotten 19 items for FREE plus you'll leave with $4 in Register Rewards to use in the future!

Publix Coupon Policy

I have been receiving many emails from readers who have had trouble at Publix when using a coupon for each item when you buy 2 items as part of a Buy 1 Get 1 FREE promotion. I have never had problems doing this at Publix but decided to email to request their coupon policy since I was receiving more and more emails on the topic. Their policy clearly states that you CAN use 2 coupons, 1 for each item, even if on a BOGO deal. I suggest printing this and bringing it with you to the store and if you have problems that the manager doesn't help with, contact Customer Service for resolution of the issue.

Here is the email I received from Publix Customer Service when I asked for their coupon policy:

"Thank you for your email. We appreciate our customers taking the time to contact us. At your request, we have provided our coupon policy below. Please see the store management if you have questions or concerns.

We will always comply with all rules and regulations that are printed on a coupon.

If a product is on a Buy One and Get One Free promotion you can use one manufacturer's coupon on each item.

If a product is purchased with a Buy One and Get One Free manufacturer coupon no other manufacturer's coupon can be used on the same item.

There is a limit of one Manufacturer's coupon and one Publix coupon per item if no limit is mentioned.

Publix will accept "cents off" Internet Coupons for $5.00 or less. We will accept "free product" Internet coupons for $5.00 or less. We also reserve the right to reject any Internet coupon that does not appear to be legitimate or does not scan properly. Internet coupons valued over $5.00 should be approved by a Manager or Customer Service Team Leader.

Also, we accept traditional supermarket competitor coupons. Please see your store manager for more details, as there is no written policy on this.

Again, thank you for taking the time to contact us. If we can be of any further assistance regarding this matter, please either call our Consumer Relations toll-free number at 1-800-242-1227, write us at the Publix Super Markets Corporate Office, PO Box 407, Lakeland, FL 33802, ATTN: Consumer Relations, or contact us at our website, publix.com and mention your reference number"

Bob Evans Review & Giveaway!

Bob Evans has re-designed their website so that it includes information about their restaurants such as a locator and a menu, as well as information about their grocery store products. There are even recipes on the site. There is also a kids section where kids can preview the kids menu and download some "super cool activities" to do from home or while they are out. They have also included a Teacher's Corner so teachers can get some great ideas for their lessons. The Bob Evans Birthday Club is available for kids to get a FREE meal when they sign up! The website is very comprehensive and has information useful for everyone in your family!

Bob Evans really has expanded their offerings in the past year or so and the grocery store line now consists of dinner side dishes such as mashed potatoes and stuffing as well as the traditional breakfast items such as egg sandwiches and microwaveable frozen oatmeal.

I was recently sent a giftcard to use at Bob Evans and was thrilled with my experience! You can get breakfast all day but they also have lunch and dinner menus with many different options. There really is something for everyone! The best part is browsing through the country store in the front of the restaurant. If you have a short wait, it's never a problem as there is so much to see and do - for adults as well as kids! The food was delicious and the service was excellent. I love having breakfast for lunch or dinner and couldn't help but order from the breakfast menu. Everything was cooked perfectly and I can't wait to go back again soon.

The folks at Bob Evans have graciously decided to give one (1) of my lucky readers seven (7) coupons each good for a FREE Bob Evans frozen product! These coupons are valued at up to $5 each so this giveaway is valued at $35! To enter, you MUST visit the Bob Evans website here and read about their products. Then come back to my blog and leave a comment in this post letting me know what recipe from the Bob Evans website you'd most like to try at home! Make sure to leave your email address so I can contact the winners.

There are six (6) "extra" ways to enter (each one below gets you one additional entry):

1. subscribe to my blog (either via email using the box in the left sidebar or RSS feed). If you already subscribe leave a comment saying you do. If you subscribe by email you MUST confirm your email and activate the subscription.

4. email 5 people about this giveaway (please cc me on this email - nicolesnickels at gmail dot com and leave a comment saying you sent the email)

Keurig Platinum Brewer Review & GIVEAWAY!

I admit that I am guilty of stopping most mornings to get coffee from a drive-through. Not only does it take up precious time that I typically don't have as I scramble to get to work, but it seriously adds up! That $1.50 cup of coffee is $7.50 per week, or $32.25 per month, or $390 per year. If you stop at one of those fancy-shmancy coffeehouses (you know who you are), you're looking at $4.50 for your latte per day, $22.50 per week, $96.75 per month, or $1,170 per year! Those are significant expenses in the grand scheme of your spending and here is a possibility to help reduce those outside coffee expenses.

I hate to make a pot of coffee in the morning to just drink a cup as I'm running out the door and then have to deal with all of the clean-up associated with the traditional coffeemaker. I was thrilled when the kind folks at Keurig sent me the Keurig Platinum Brewer pictured below for me to review. I have used it every single day since I received it and am officially hooked!

I am astonished at how easy it was to set-up and use. Within minutes of opening the package, I had brewed a cup of coffee as well as cup of tea. This thing does it all! I received a pack of assorted K-Cups (this is what they call the little cups with your coffee, tea or hot cocoa in them)with the brewer and have been enjoying the fact that there is so little clean-up and no waste at all! The machine works with just water and your K-Cup in minutes. You decide what size cup you want to brew, make your selection, and the brew begins! It even can make iced coffee, you just use the iced function.

There are tons of varieties of K-Cups from regular coffees to decaf coffee to flavored coffee and then hot cocoa and teas. There really is something for everyone, even the kids who love making their hot chocolate on the Keurig. I know it sounds corny to say but this Keurig Platinum Brewer has changed my coffee-drinking life and for the better!

The folks at Keurig have graciously decided to give one (1) of my lucky readers this awesome Keurig Platinum Brewer! To enter, you MUST visit the Keurig website here and look through their products and all they have to offer. Then come back to my blog and leave a comment in this post letting me know which K-Cup flavor you most want to try! Make sure to leave your email address so I can contact the winner.

There are six (6) "extra" ways to enter (each one below gets you one additional entry):

Printable coupon update

Since there were no coupon inserts in yesterday's paper due to the holiday, I thought I would bring you an updated list of printable coupons that can be printed right from my blog! You can access these coupons from the blue widget on my right sidebar that has 3 coupons on it. Click to scroll through or to see all of them. Some of them are not available in all zip codes. You can print two (2) of each coupon by hitting the back button on your browser.

Printing the coupons from the widget on my blog supports this blog! Remember to contact your local stores to see what their policy on accepting Internet printables is! It's best to print as many as you think you may need as soon as you see them (read: right now) because you never know when a coupon will reach its print limit. Print now, hold on to them, and wait for a good deal to use them!

FYI - sometimes coupons reset several times each month so even if you have already printed 2 of a certain coupon, try to print it again - if you're lucky, it was reset and you can print 2 more!

CVS HOT deals

A very HOT deal is being reported this holiday weekend!

At CVS if you buy 2 Neutrogena sun products you'll get $10 back in ECB's. People are saying that they found small (1 oz.) SPF 55 sunscreens for $1.99 each that generated the $10 ECB's.

Buy 2 of the small sunscreens for $1.99 each, spend $3.98 and get back $10 in ECB's! You get the 2 small sunscreens and then $6.02 overage! Look for these small tubes where the sunscreen is, where the trial sizes are, in the seasonal area and on endcaps and near the register!

Some other hot deals that Stephanie at Couponing 101 emailed me about are:

at CVS: Hefty One Zip Bags (6-8 ct) $1.00 (everyday price)
Use the $1.00 coupon from the 5/17 RP
Final price: FREE

at Walgreens: Hawaiian Tropic Sunscreen on clearance for $2.62 - $2.87, plus they ring up B1G1Free
Use the (2) $1.00 coupons from the 5/3 SS or the $2.00 printable coupon
Final price: FREE or less than $0.50 each

All You Magazine - June issue and missing coupons!

I get so excited each month when my All You Magazine arrives in the mail. It is full of awesome coupons and great tips and recipes. It is the only magazine that I pay to subscribe to, the rest I get for FREE!

I have blogged about All You Magazine here, here and here. If you are interested in subscribing, Cheryl from Southern Living at Home has offered Nicole's Nickels' readers a great deal on All You Magazine at a rate of $17.99 for 2 full years. You can find all of the details on how to take advantage of this great deal by reading my earlier post.

This month's issue has over $112 in coupon savings! My favorite 5 coupons in this month's issue are:
*Alexia Crunchy Snacks, $1.00 off 1 and Buy 1 Get 1 Free
*Blue Bunny Ice Cream Novelties, $.75 off 1
*Cutter Insect Repellent, $2.00 off 1
*Sally Hansen Nail Color, Buy 1 Get 1 Free
*Schick Quattro, $4.00 off 1

Apparently the version that is on sale at WalMart contains a coupon booklet with $12.50 in coupons not in the subscriber's version. All You must have received some complaints about this and are offering this same booklet to their subscribers this month. In future months the newsstand version will be the same as the subscriber's version. If you are a subscriber and would like the additional coupon booklet, please email All You at subsvcs@allyou.customersvc.com and include the following information:
1. Your account number (found on the label, an 11 digit number between # signs)
2. Your name and address
3. Your email address
4. You must specifically mention that you are looking for the coupon booklet from the June 2009 issue that was missing from subscriber's magazines

FYI - I have heard that they may be out of these booklets and are offering subscribers an additional month on their subscriptions for FREE to make up for this. So even if they have run out, it's worth emailing the information and waiting for the response!

CouponTrunk.com

I love finding out about websites to make my money-saving life easier online! CouponTrunk.com is one of these sites! The site is extremely comprehensive and not only provides links to pages for the discount codes for your favorite stores but also has blog-type articles on its home page highlighting various stores and the discounts offered.

I found a couple of great examples to show you about this site. The first is the page for Amazon.com which has a not-so-complex matrix showing the categories of items and then the percentage off the item. You can click, say, 50% off in the toys & games category and you are linked directly to Amazon's page of toys & games at 50% off. This is such a great time-saver and doing it this way is much faster than going to Amazon and typing in the search parameters. 1 click and it was done!

Another great store page I looked at is the Buy.com page which had at least 20 different valid coupon codes for you to use. I like the the expiration date of most codes is listed as is the specific details of what items the code covers and if there are any restrictions.

You can also search for stores by category or which are the newest coupons or the soonest to expire. There is an RSS feed to subscribe to and also an email subscription option. Let CouponTrunk.com help you save on your next online purchase!

Foot Locker, Champs, and Foot Action Friends & Family Coupons!

Foot Locker, Champs and Foot Action are hosting a Friends and Families Event from May 20-May 26. Just print the coupon for the store you want by clicking the store name below. Take your coupon to the store and get 30% off your purchase! These coupons can also be used online and have a special online code printed at the bottom of them.

With the coupons you can get polo shirts for under $5. Happy Shopping!

To print the coupon click here. There are some great freebies this week at Walgreens that would work well with this coupon. To see this week's Walgreens deals click here and to learn more about shopping at Walgreens click here.

Friendlys FREE Ice Cream - June 6

From 12:00 noon until 5:00 pm on Saturday, June 6, 2009, Friendlys will host its FREE Ice Cream Day! This is the second annual FREE ice cream day and last year the company gave away 300,000 FREE cones! You can choose any flavor you would like in a single scoop cone or dish.

In anticipation of the big day, Friendlys has developed a facebook quiz to determine their ice cream treat profile. Your personality will be matched to a signature Friendlys ice cream dessert (i.e. Fribble® “You are a smooth operator who never loses your cool”). This is a fun way to get the word out about FREE ice cream day.

Ribert & Robert's Wonderworld & a chance to win $10,000!

I was recently given a copy of Ribert & Robert's Wonderworld DVD to review for my readers. Ribert & Robert's Wonderworld is a part-animated, part-live action television series shown nationwide on public access television stations.

The series is an educational one with Ribert, a toad who asks questions about everything and his friend Robert, a human boy as they journey together to find the answers. There is a lot of singing and dancing and the 3 year old that watched this video fell in love with it! She was clapping and singing along and of course asked to watch it again and again as soon as it ended.

Wonderworld has launched a new interactive website as a companion to the television series that showcases the "Golden Ribby Awards" where children can enter to win $10,000 after showing off their talents in the quarterly contest. All you do is film your child and their talent and then upload to the site. The other part of the website is interactive and fun where kids "travel" through an educational environment learning everything from yoga to cooking. Definitely check out the site - either to enter your child into the contest or for the interactive Ribert & Robert fun!

CVS 5/17-5/23

The Frugal RI Mama, Karen, has this week's best CVS deals for you. This isn't the best week at CVS but it's even worse for those of us in Florida. We Floridians got a "special" ad this week, unlike the rest of the country (well, California, too - they have no ECB's all month while they merge with Longs!) and the pickings are slim for us! I'm not even going to highlight the Florida ad and I skipped CVS today. Below are a few of the deals for the country minus Florida. For information about shopping at CVS please read my earlier CVS 101 post. For the rest of this week's CVS deals, read Karen's full post here.

Right Guard or Dry Idea, On Sale 2/$5.00 Get $2.00 ECB's wyb 2 (limit 3)
Use $2.00 printable Dry Idea
Buy 2 Dry Idea
Final Cost: FREE + $1.00 money maker

Colgate Sensitive, On Sale $3.99, Get $2.00 ecb's

Johnson & Johnson Swaps Twin Pack 1000ct, On Sale $4.99 Get $2.00 ECB's
Use $1.00 cpn in 3-8-09 RP

Sunday 5/17 Coupon Preview

Tomorrow there will be four (4) coupon inserts in the Sunday newspaper, 2 Smartsource, 1 Red Plum, and 1 Proctor & Gamble. This is a good week to stock up on inserts - you can buy extra papers, ask friends and family for their inserts, or even use a coupon clipping service, such as <'>Coupon Clippers or Cents-Off where you can buy multiples of coupons.

Please note that next Sunday, 5/24, there will be no coupon inserts due to the Memorial Day holiday.

In my opinion, the top 10 of tomorrow's coupons will be the following (remember, some coupons are regional so you may not always get the exact ones listed here), not in any specific order:

1. Bic Soleil Disposable Shaver $3 off
2. El Monterey Tornados, 8.4oz box $1 off (use with the "Try me free" peelie to get an overage)
3. Healthy Choice All Natural Entrées $1 on 2 (good to use with a BOGO)
4. Soft Scrub B1G1F up to $4.69 (good to use with a BOGO)
5. Wheat Thins Crackers, 7.5oz-10oz FREE wyb (1) Ritz Crackers 13.66oz-16oz – up to $3.49 value (combine with the Kraft coupons you printed this week)
6. Colgate Sensitive Toothpaste $1 (usually makes for free toothpaste)
7. Johnsons Body Care Wash or Lotion $1 (use on the trial size if not specifically excluded on the coupon)
8. Pringles Fat Free Pringles, 165g+ $1 on 2
9. Pringles, 180g+ $1 on 2
10. Mars M&Ms, Snickers, Twix, Milky Way, 3 Musketeers, Dove, 1.16-2.13 oz, B1G1F up to .85 (good to use with a BOGO)

Nicole's Nickels on the Radio, 4/30, 5/7, and 5/14

Here are my last 3 weekly radio segments (4/30, 5/7 and 5/14) from the Jennifer & Danny Show on 97.9 WRMF. There were some technical difficulties with the station getting the poscasts posted but here they are! If you're local to the West Palm Beach, Florida area you can catch me live every Thursday morning between 7:00 a.m. and 7:30 a.m. If you're not local you can listen live online here or just wait for me to post the podcast!

Walgreens 101

As I get more readers to my now not-so-new blog, I find myself answering similar questions about CVS and Walgreens and how to shop there. I've decided to write a post dedicated to each store as a 101 for beginners type post. In these "101" posts, you'll learn how to shop at CVS and Walgreens to best maximize your money and coupons. If you follow the tips, you can save 90%+ on your shopping trips!

Walgreens recently discontinued its EasySaver rebate and catalog program so their only rewards program is currently the Register Rewards (RR) program.

Walgreens has ads in their weekly flyers that you can get in the Sunday paper or emailed to you after you register at http://www.walgreens.com/. There is no rewards card at Walgreens so there is no limit to the amount of deals you can get since they have no way of tracking who is buying what.

Register Rewards (RR's) expire after just 2 weeks and have an expiration date on them. The Walgreens near me will not take expired RR's so make sure you use them before they expire! RR's are just like cash though they do not pay tax.

The biggest myth at Walgreens is that if you use a coupon on an item you can't get the RR for that item. I routinely am able to get RR's when I use a coupon and when I call corporate they tell me that this is correct. If you run into a problem with an RR not printing and are not satisfied after speaking to a manager, you can call corporate at 1-877-250-5823 or call Catalina, the company who prints the RR's and can issue an RR if you should have received one at 1-888-8coupon. A word to the wise - check to see if the Catalina machine has a green light on it - could be that the machine is off and that's why nothing printed. Also, check the ad to make sure you are purchasing the EXACT item advertised for sale.

Please be advised that you CANNOT use RR's to pay for the same item you got the RR from. For example, if you buy Colgate toothpaste and get $2 RR's from buying it, you cannot use the $2 RR's you got to buy more Colgate toothpaste. The RR's do not "roll" and it will beep and won't be accepted. You can use RR's that you got from another promotion and it will work just fine.

Walgreens often has great clearance items that you can find easily in the aisles with a bright red sticker in front of the price. There is also an endcap to an aisle (usually in the back of the store) full of clearance items to look through. If you can find one and match an item to the coupon, you'll have likely found yourself a FREEBIE or almost freebie!

If you have any questions about shopping at Walgreens, please leave a comment or send me an email!
